Why we built My Home Battery

Back in 2019 we started Why Solar here in Sydney, for a simple reason. Getting solar quotes had turned into a maze of pushy salespeople, hidden costs and claims that did not add up, and good people were getting burned. We thought homeowners deserved straight answers and real numbers, with no hidden fees and no pressure, so we built a place that gave them exactly that.

Since then we have watched the ugly side of a gold rush up close. Over 270 Australian solar companies have collapsed, leaving roughly one in six solar homes, around 650,000 of them, holding a warranty that is not worth the paper it is printed on, because the company that fitted the panels is long gone. That is what Why Solar was built to push back against: an industry that too often treats a homeowner as a lead to be sold, not a person to be helped.

We watched it happen with solar. We are not going to stand by while it happens again with batteries.

Now the same thing is happening with batteries. A home battery is the next big purchase a solar home makes, and it is confusing and easy to overprice. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount is genuinely good, roughly 30 per cent off a typical battery, somewhere around $2,400 to $3,300 off a 10 to 13 kWh unit, straight off the invoice. But I am already seeing it dressed up, padded out, and stacked into numbers that fall apart the moment you read a real quote. The same tricks, aimed at a new product.

So we did the obvious thing. We took everything we learned building Why Solar and built My Home Battery as its sister brand, pointed squarely at batteries. Same Sydney team, more than 35 years of combined experience between us, including Bec Ramirez, our Aussie Mum and Energy Expert, who is brilliant at turning the rebate maze into plain English. Same standards, same promise.

Here is what that promise means in practice. We will not sell your details. We will not set your phone ringing. We will not quote you a rebate we cannot stand behind, and we will not merge the federal discount and the separate state incentives into one shiny figure to make the maths look prettier than it is. They are separate things, so we describe them separately.

What we will do is give you the truth, for free. Plain-English guides and a real savings calculator, so you can work out your own payback, which for most homes lands somewhere around three to five years. Honest prices. And when you are ready, and only then, one vetted, accredited installer matched to your home. Not five. One. No spam, no pressure, no calls until you say so.
