GloBird's ZEROHERO is a retail plan built around a battery-friendly day: free power in the middle of the day, and credits for keeping your home off the grid in the evening. The optional VPP add-on goes further, letting GloBird call on your battery during critical peak events and paying $1 per kWh you export in them.
Two things make it unusual. The core daily credits work with any battery brand, because they reward what your meter sees rather than who made the battery. And there are no fees, no contract term and no exit fees. The catch is that the rules are quite specific, and plenty of comparison sites are still quoting the pre-July 2026 version.
Who it suits
- Battery owners whose battery can comfortably carry the house from 6pm to 9pm every day.
- People who can move usage into the 12pm to 3pm free window (dishwasher, pool pump, EV charging, hot water).
- Owners of AlphaESS, Sigenergy, Sungrow, SolaX, Redback and similar batteries who want a VPP with no lock-in.
Who should skip it
- Homes with heavy evening loads the battery cannot cover. The $1 daily credit is lost if you import more than 0.03kWh in any hour from 6pm to 9pm.
- Regional Queenslanders: only the Energex network is covered in QLD.
- Anyone who needs a guaranteed backup reserve. The VPP terms let GloBird override your settings and do not state a minimum.

How the money actually works
Think of it as four separate credits. The first is free power: the first 50kWh a day you use between 12pm and 3pm costs nothing, which is a cheap way to top up a battery on a cloudy day or charge an EV.
The second is the ZEROHERO Credit: $1 for every day your imports stay at or below 0.03kWh in each hour from 6pm to 9pm. That is essentially zero, so the battery has to carry the whole evening peak. Do it every day and it is worth up to $365 a year.
The third is Super Export. For the first 15kWh you export between 6pm and 9pm each day, GloBird tops your feed-in up to 10c per kWh in total. It is a top-up, not an extra 10c: the base feed-in in that window is 2c, so the top-up adds 8c. Outside 4pm to 11pm the base feed-in is 0c.
The fourth only comes with the VPP add-on: during critical peak events GloBird pays $1 per kWh exported. The fact sheet also lists a critical peak import rate of 5c per kWh. GloBird calls events at its discretion and doesn't publish how often.
Worked example: one good evening, then a month of them
Built only from GloBird Energy's published terms, with every assumption spelled out.
- Published (July 2026 fact sheet): $1 a day for imports of 0.03kWh an hour or less, 6pm to 9pm; Super Export tops up to 10c per kWh in total on the first 15kWh exported 6pm to 9pm.
- Assumption: your battery covers the house all evening and still exports 6kWh between 6pm and 9pm.
- Assumption: 25 such days in a month. Cloudy days, cold snaps or a big evening load will break the run.
- Critical peak events are left out, because GloBird doesn't publish how often it calls them.
This is the maths of GloBird's published credits on days that qualify. It is not an annual promise: one hour of importing more than 0.03kWh cancels that day's $1. It also leaves out what you pay for imports at other times and the value of the free midday power, which depends on your usage.
Which batteries work with GloBird ZEROHERO
This is GloBird Energy's own compatibility list as published when we checked. Lists change, and it is often the exact model, inverter and firmware that matter, not just the brand, so confirm your system with GloBird Energy before you count on the numbers.
- ZEROHERO daily credits: any battery brand (they reward what your meter sees, not the battery)
- VPP and critical peak credits: AlphaESS, Anker, FoxESS, Neovolt, Redback, SAJ, Sigenergy, SolaX, Solis with Dyness, Sungrow and WHES
- For the VPP: inverter of 3 to 30kW and battery of 3 to 100kWh

The catch: fine print worth reading first
- The 0.03kWh rule is strict. The daily credit needs near-zero imports in every hour from 6pm to 9pm. One kettle when the battery is flat is enough to miss it.
- GloBird's control overrides yours. On the VPP add-on, GloBird can charge from the grid or discharge the battery without notice, and the VPP terms do not state a minimum reserve.
- Event frequency is unknown. Critical peak events are at GloBird's discretion. The $1 per kWh is real, but there is no published count to build on.
- Stale rates are everywhere. The free window moved from 11am to 2pm to 12pm to 3pm for customers joining from 1 July 2026. Check any comparison against the current fact sheet.
- You switch retailer. You need to be a GloBird customer on ZEROHERO, with solar, a smart meter and internet.
Other things to know
- You need to be a residential customer with solar, a smart meter and an internet connection. Homes with life support equipment, and batteries already in another VPP, are not eligible.
- FoxESS appears in GloBird's VPP battery list on its join page but not in its FAQ list. Confirm with GloBird if you have a FoxESS system.
- If you joined before 1 July 2026, your free power window is 11am to 2pm rather than 12pm to 3pm.
How it sits next to your battery rebates
GloBird says its VPP is eligible for both the NSW and SA VPP incentives, paid through MAC Trade Services. That is GloBird's own claim, so confirm the amount and conditions with GloBird before you rely on it. Whatever it comes to, it is a state incentive, separate from GloBird's daily credits and event payments, and separate again from the federal discount on the battery.
We always treat these as separate numbers: the federal Cheaper Home Batteries discount comes off the battery invoice, any state incentive is its own amount with its own rules, and VPP payments are ongoing credits on your power bill. Check your state: VIC battery rebates, NSW battery rebates, SA battery rebates, QLD battery rebates. Then run your own numbers in the savings calculator before you add any VPP income on top.
